A LITTLE ABOUT ARROWHEAD
|
HORSES Appaloosas were a big part of our horse family since 1972 but have now taken to the Quarter Horse. We have finally found two really great little mares that have the temperaments we have been looking for in a "family" horse. Both Mousse and Macy fit the bill and will, hopefully, become the basis of a breeding programme in future years. Inky our retired Appaloosa mare served us for many years in the Pony Club scene where she was very competitive in Dressage, Show Jumping and Cross Country as well as winning at the State Appaloosa Show on numerous occasions. |
|
We established Arrowhead Braunvieh Beef the same year with the purchase of two females and one heifer calf from Hinton Braunvieh Stud, Queensland. Competing in the horse world has helped us in the preparing of our cattle for showing as well as being guided by cattle people along the way. Since the purchase of the above three females, we went on and purchased a number of females from other studs, including the main herd of Braunvieh females and calves from Sarsha Wetherell in Western Australia (Bandeeka Braunvieh), including Bandeeka Tequila the ONLY BRAUNVIEH female to have won an individual interbreed at a Royal Show. We showed one of these females, Bandeeka Annabella, to Supreme Braunvieh Exhibit at the 2008 National Beef Show in Bendigo, Victoria. We achieved this with only twelve months showing experience under our belts! At local shows we put the emphasis on our females and to date our females have won wherever they have been shown. |

OUR AIMS Both our horses and cattle have to be "family" animals and fit in with us so temperament is NUMBER ONE. We enjoy competing and socialising regularly at Western Horse Shows around our state (Victoria) and may look at interstate shows again in the future. When the horses are being spelled over winter, it is time to start working with the cattle. Our goals for our Braunvieh are -
Nutrition is the key to getting our calves off to a good start. Genetics play their role but without a good start you only have half an animal. Apart from culling for undesirable temperament and structure, we do not concentrate on any one trait, otherwise all other traits will fall by the wayside, but we believe we are putting more BEEF into our BRAUNVIEH. We are not large scale stud beef breeders and do not envisage becoming "BIG". We are striving all the time for QUALITY NOT QUANTITY always with the commercial beef industry as the basis of our breeding. We like to know all our animals on a individual basis and believe in keeping up with the 21st Century with Quality Assurance and vaccination programs and fulfilling DNA requirements so that prospective buyers can be assured of their product.
