OUR SWISS ORIGINAL BRAUNVIEH

Swiss Original Braunvieh (or as they are more commonly referred to in Australia "Braunvieh") are in fact a dual purpose breed, but like many dual purpose breeds in Australia they are marketed as a beef animal with milking ability.

Many comments are made that the breed is too dairy looking.

The breed has been in Australia for well over 30 years now and in that time very little has been done on the selection for better beef. In some respects we feel we are 30 years behind other breeds that were imported into Australia in the 70's. Very little data has been collected on the breed historically and therefore cannot be accessed to select for the future.

However, we are not to be deterred and through selection we are effectively producing, what we consider, a better beef animal. More muscle means more meat but without comprising the milking ability, temperament and adaptibility of the Swiss Original Braunvieh.

We do not keep every bull as we are extremely selective where the beef qualities of any bulls produced are concerned. Therefore there will not always be bulls for sale. We want to breed a quality product, not quantity. The same goes for our females.

Strict culling is employed for temperament, calving ease and lack of muscle.
