BSG "up" exhibition  page 3

We went and had a look at the “wild man” sculpture by Ron Mueck at the McLelland Gallery in Frankston and I was very impressed with the detail of care and expression shown in the sculpture. The man is 3 meters tall and the chair is almost unnoticed apart from as a prop for the man. This is a sort of homage (within my limited abilities) to the “wild man” but I thought more of the time when we were young and a high chair was High!
It certainly fits the Up theme.

I made a sculpture entitled “bridge” for our ”Gumbay” exhibition and I have done a few other versions of it since. This is another one. I love mirrors and their magical properties of reflection. I love the fact the circle is completed “in another dimension” in the mirror and I enjoyed making the ball forms.

This piece was also recycled out of a piece called “Mower Man”. I did the original piece for our Wild Dog exhibition “Gippsland” that went to China for exhibition in Juijiang, Warragul’s sister city. I made two of them but one didn’t have the dog and was a bit smaller. I love mowing although now I love my ride-on mower more than the Victa push along mower.

To match the theme this time I played with the man and left the dog. This time I made him airborne, changed his arms and neck and added a cape. I reckon it works wonderfully and is even better than the original (although it has a different theme). (Thank you Marian!)

This piece was also recycled out of a piece called “Shopper”. I did the original piece for our exhibition “Gippsland”. It did a bit of touring and even visited China ( although it only had a very select viewing there… but that is another story)

Marian had the idea that I should recycle some of these pieces as they were fun but were not really having much of an outing. To match the theme I played with the dog and changed the shopper’s arm.

Why is the little dog supported by a balloon? I see lots of ladies carrying their little older dogs as they shop and they comment from time to time when you see them: “the dog has arthritis”. It certainly makes it a more fun piece!
