I did this piece for "He who explores exhibition" to be held at Walker St
Gallery in Dandenong. This one is about my greatest exploration. Women.
Hence there are about 8 little male figures climbing through the junk to
reach the goal of a real woman symbolized by the shiny female symbol. The
little character at the top bowing is recycled from the greetings piece for
the "inspired" exhibition.
This piece is called Arch and builds from the cylindrical pieces. I like the
bits of redgum at appropriate points.
This one is called Bridge 2 and is a half hexagon form mounted on a mirror.
Again linking reality and unreality to make a whole but also echoing a
bridge form
This one is another part of the Greeting piece recycled to be called Father
and Son fo sort of obvious reasons. ( No reference to my son!)
Fish table was asked for by a lady at Mirboo Nth
This is the piece I am entering in the exhibition 6 degrees with
subtitles the Human Landscape and The cult of personality. I did three
linked pieces based on Historical figures. Mao, Hitler and Marilyn Monroe.
What do they have in common? Their personalities still have a resonance
today.
This is the Mao piece. I read the book Mao by Jung Chang and he really was a
bastard! Hence I have made him represented by lots of shiny junk on the
front but it is all rusty and rough on the back propped up by rusty poles
The Hitler piece had me use an oxy cutter to make a base of his profile. The
little woman and baby are heading in the opposite direction to what he is
pointing and it sort of refers to even though he is part of history he does
not have to be followed.
The Marilyn piece has the pose of her with her
dress blowing up and as she was one of last century's enduring sex symbols I
made a small female figure looking in a mirror contemplating her image as an
echo of Marlyn's presence.
This one is River and is a river shape filled with junk( on the edges)
and sort of reflects the Yarra water quality and also refers back to our
China trip where the water was so polluted that no one could swim
These are the modified pieces from The brunswick St show and I feel the
addition of the hearts makes each of them much stronger meaningful pieces
