Grace
Artist statement for "Grace"
In looking at art ,
one is taken by representations of beauty,
often in the female form. The ballet has been a source of artistic
inspiration from at least the time of Degas. The grace of the ballet dancers
I feel is echoed in the grace that occurs in many a netball game,
although finding any representations of this in the arts is usually an
impossible task. In many sports and especially Australian sports such as AFL
and Netball,
grace and beauty occur in every game along with energy and striving and much
of the whole human drama.
I have arranged a group of ballet dancers
pirouetting and contrasted this to a pose using similar balance as seen in
any netball game. Both activities require fitness and stamina but one of the
activities is pursued by a small portion of our society as an art form, yet
the other activity is the most played game in the country and involves
nearly every community. My piece is a small acknowledgement of the beauty
achieved by this sport as a byproduct to the aim of the game. We often
overlook the beauty of the everyday as we search for what is special and
this is also reflected in the materials I have chosen for this piece. .

This is the second Marie
Curie piece and is called "Struggle
"and shows Marie the student being so cold in her garret that she went to
bed with all her clothes on and then placed a chair on top to hopefully
create more pressure and warmth.

 snap
I have been playing with Ballerina
forms and I thought that the idea of combining them in an activity such as
photography might be fun.I think it worked well but it will be interesting
to see how it goes in the art show it is going off to

This
is the third Marie Curie piece
and is called "Balance" and this shows the uphill
struggle as she balanced the relationship to her husband( Pierre) and her
children with that of her path and goals in science.
( To a degree this is not completely correct as
Marie and Pierre were equal partners but it looks good and I hope it has
resonance in the struggles of many women in todays world.)
Each piece has a chair as this seemed to be an
appropriate image ( both from the story and to suggest stability and
support.)These are on show during september at Part Fairy at Blarney
