Feb 2010 work

February went by in its usual hurry. I tried to catch up with a number of orders and do pieces for new shows coming up. I went to see the Ricky Swallow show and Ron Muerk at the National gallery. We had our usual markets Rokeby and Gembrook and Ishka decided to stock my work again so I had the extra need to make 14 dogs and 14 birds for them. The Pt Fairy exhibition closed( selling about 1/2 of the small sculptures.. not so good with the little ink sketches). Well done Blarney Books! We had the studio in the open studios and about 80 to 100 people went through.

Gracies gate This piece was an order with Gracie supplying lots of old cast Iron pieces. I welded them to a tube frame and supported them with a mesh. I worry about their fragility but it was what was wanted elephant Another order was for a small elephant. He came out quite well. cute !
outdoor mirror another order  ,this one for an outdoor mirror. table Table , this one on display at Town and Country Gallery Yarragon
table 2 another table at Yarragon  table mosaicThis is another order. It was to be a table with bigger dimensions than normal
Birds and dogs at Rokeby seat at Rokeby A seat that sold at Rokeby with the circle form and horseshoes as well
This piece called "the door to the future" went to Herring Island with the Contemporary Arts society show. It originally was just the leaf form but it seemed too dull so I added the door, ladder and character. It looks much more interesting!. ( Barney wanted to be in the picture)

This piece has whimsical elements but also suggests some more important messages. The change of scale is suggestive that man is really quite a small part of nature ( represented by the leaf) and that everything we make is part of / comes from our ecosystem originally. How we interact with nature will determine whether the ecosystem flourishes or fades away!

Rings of earth This piece sold during the open studios. It is called "Rings of earth"

Many of my pieces have an environmental theme. This one suggests we will make so much waste that we will end up creating rings around the earth like the rings of Saturn except that the rings will be made up of junk and rubbish. I have included two small characters floating in the chaos. To a degree the piece might have presented differently in a horizontal manner but it looks good this way and there is no right way up in space anyway!
