March 2010 work

March was a pleasant month with a number of challenges in it. Art Blitz was on at the Kingston Arts centre, I had to pick up pieces from the herring island show, Caleb graduated, the inspired show was on, we demonstrated at both the Harvest of Gippsland at Lardner Park and then also at Farmworld. We did planning for the Easter Arts festival and also two markets, Rokeby and Gembrook.

off the wall This is the piece I did for Art Blitz. They give you the title on Friday at 4.00 and you hand it in on saturday at 4.00. The topic was Off  the wall and I used the word wall as the basis with a character diving off the top. a character climbing it and a girl bouncing her ball off it. It didn't win but I was happy with my composition crane This was an order for the person who also bought the first reading girl. She wanted a small crane.. and I had fun adding the hook a, weight and wheels.
seat I did a number of seats this month and this is one of them seat again At Harvest of Gippsland a lady saw the seat and ordered a bigger version.
farmworld seat I did this seat for the Farmworld stand, where a lady saw it and will pick it up soon. I thought the tractor was appropriate for farmworld  Kaitlyns mirrorThis is another order. One of my ex students saw a version of it on a table at Yarragon but wanted iot bigger and without the table.I
inspired piece This was the piece for the inspired exhibition at Heritage Hill in Dandenong. The topic was unlimited possibilities and the topic was given on Friday evening and to be handed in on Sunday Morning. It was to reflect the multi cultural nature of Dandenong and this was the first time I have combined steel with paper. Its relatively obvious but I like it.

The ladders are the legs of the piece and each ladder is individual signifying the different cultures of the world converging on Australia. Each ladder has rungs that have odd problems signifying the journey has not always been straightforward. One ladder alone will not support the form of the country , and really the more ladders the more stable we are. On the ladders after each has reached” Australia” are the butterflies signifying that they don’t need ladders anymore and are free to develop their own possibilities as they will. The colour is on the butterflies expressing the individuality of the culture and yet they are still part of the whole

reading girl 2 This is the second reading girl I have made. The first one was in a show in Drouin, went to Pt Fairy and was then bought by someone who saw her at Drouin. Someone saw her at Pt Fairy and ordered a version. She sits a bit differently but is still lovely.
Mortgage This piece is called "Mortgage" and

is a recycled version of a piece from the Drouin show. Everyone walked by the original version and didn't notice it so I decided the cube had to be higher. The black and yellow suggest the Commonwealth bank and the characters can be seen as being thrown a lifeline or being kept dangling , depending on how you view banks! It is going in the Trafalgar Rotary show next month

farmworld table This piece was requested as a table for artists to use at Farmworld. I recycled the table top but it is quite a substantial piece. I think it will stay in the shed and come out for similar events."
