horse seat This was an order from Rokeby market where a lady came along with a set of Horseshoes and other gear that was from her previous horses and we decided a seat form was the best idea. picture frame Another order. This piece was made for the easter arts show "the Journey" held at the Drouin Butter factory sponsored by the uniting Chruch. I won second prize for this piece

This journey is “up”. I guess we all regard up as being positive and we work through life to achieve a “higher state”. In this piece several characters are tackling the climb. It’s a challenge!

One has made it… through the junk and into the light. There is pride expressed in the stance..and the pose is balanced and not striving anymore.

One is climbing, and the chain that gives him a leg up has symbolic possibilities  as well, suggesting there are some paths that are easier than others, there is a community that helps provide direction( someone attached the chain) and theat we all can help each other on the way

There is one more down the bottom that is unsure whether it is worth it and puzzled where to start.

My “sun” can be interpreted as a symbol of enlightenment, a religious symbol which must be worked through or an outmoded remnant of a past civilization.

The bird suggests another way altogether of reaching what ever you desire by a very different path and it is a reminder that the natural world does not necessarily follow our paths or requirements

.

The chain  Another piece for the Journey arts show.

The chain

This is another “journey” the journey of growth through our family.

Most of the time they are there to support us and they provide a chain of strength that nourishes and allows us to grow safely.

Some can see the chain as a limitation, binding us and holding us back  and sometimes it can be. We all have our limitations and working within them is what we have to do.

However a chain is strong and can save us and this is another aspect.

In my chain it is not a completely straight line and this suggests a range of paths, links that may be broken and forged and different directions taken.

Different ages and genders are suggested but not really defined as a family can include all of these possibilities or only some.

This is the journey we all take and no matter where we are in life the chain of family still has links to everyone of us.

fashion girl 2 These pieces were not made during this month but went out to the Toorak Library for a show with CAS the contemporary Arts Society
