Things to do around the area

There is too much to list really but I will point out some fantastic spots locally which are worth a visit. I will put in photos when I get around to it!!!

Festivals and Markets( only some of though)

Drouin Ficifolia Festival This is great and involves an art show on the opening weekend( usually about 10th Feb) and also CWA craft exhibitions a street parade on the first Saturday, a poetry night ,films and other general chaos

Jindivick Flower show Last weekend in February usually on the Sunday. Real country craft, cooking flowers and stalls by local folk. Stay to the end and the flowers and cakes get auctioned off.

Jindivick Chili Festival Haggis has developed this from his Red Back Chili business. At present it is on the second last weekend of February and involves lots of chili stalls( I hate Chili!) but also music and other chaos.( like me usually sitting there and selling stuff and drawing people for at least one day over the weekend)

Rokeby Market This is on the second Saturday of each month from September to May and is a real craft and produce market. Food, flowers, plants, me, woodwork, pottery, the sock lady, more food, more plants , vegetables etc. Free entry and it goes from about 8.00am to 1.00pm

Town and Country Gallery Yarragon

This is the best gallery in the state! Well it won a small business award and the quality of the work there is just delightful. I have been all over the state and there is not much to beat this. You reall need to see the range of fine quality art and craft. Jo Woswinkle has taken over from Tini Visser- Cook and  she has  a really friendly and helpful staff.

Gary Miles' Wooden Goose

On Old telegraph rd near the Drouin Neerim Sth Rd

This is an Antiques place or just general bric a brac but it also is on the site of Gary Miles' studio. Gary does fantastic free form landscape paintings and it is worth a visit
I haven't mentioned Longwarry market, Warragul market, Yarragon Market but they happen too

Local Nature

Glen Nayook Just past Neerim Sth via spectacular views over the Tarago Reservoir and some lovely bush covered hills. This is an almost unknown treasure of tree ferns, boulders, fantastic mountain ash trees and a trickling stream that appear out of the side of the hill

Blue Rock Lake  Yeah, this is a bit further a field but there is nothing like a swim in a spectacular man made lake set in the middle of lovely tree covered hills. Go to Willow Grove from Trafalgar or along Old Sale Rd and turn back toward Noojee. The boat launching area and swimming area is quite well marked.

Noojee and the trestle Bridge The trestle bridge is on the way into Noojee from Powell town or Neerim Sth. Fantastic timber structure now used as part of a walking trail. Noojee itself is lovely with a pub and river and just past it is the Toorongo Falls. This is a pair of falls set in lovely bushland.

Mt Cannibal Great name and it is a small mountain? hill  just off the freeway near Garfield. This is a reasonably easy walk, great Granite boulders, great views over the valley and a return walk to the picnic grounds. Very overlooked by tourists

Mt Worth State Park  In the Strezleckis and easily accessed by Darnum from the freeway. Great drive up the hills and then down to Moonlight Creek reserve. Then there are easy walks to the old mill sites( there was a giant pile of sawdust which although sinking into the earth provides a really interesting feeling to walk on it.

What have I missed.... Tons!! Tarago Reservoir park, Bunyip State Park, Eltons Rd swimming hole, Blue Cheese factory, Beds and Breakfasts including Broughton Hall at Jindivick, winerys, Serigraph Art Gallery at Neerim Sth, Jindivick Smoke house( although it is now based in Neerim Sth),The walk along the old rail line at Rokeby( both the walk to the river and really the bike ride from behind Rokeby towards Neerim Sth. A very shallow grade!)
