AN HOLISTIC UNDERSTANDING OF DISEASE AND HEALTH
Disease is more than Western medicine would have you believe. Simply put it is any deviation from normal. Persistent sadness, crying, bleeding, pain, tiredness etc.. are all symptoms of disease. Disease is the result of the body trying to cope in a certain situation. At first this coping mechanism is helpful to the person, however, as the situation changes, the state is no longer appropriate. 'I want praise, when I win I get praise - so I will win.' - 'I get praise - I am happy.' I start bossy, aggressive behaviour if I don't win - fighting, less friends - 'I am unhappy.'
The disease starts from situations that make you feel good. For example if the disease originated in a situation where you needed to achieve in order to be loved, then throughout your life you will not feel OK unless you are achieving. Your relationships are confused because you think achievement is love and your partner may believe something else represents love. You start to speak a different language, and neither can understand the other's needs. You try harder to achieve to get more love and so the disease gets worse and so does the relationship. Similarly, if you only got positive reinforcement when your room was tidy you may become extremely fastidious and believe you can only feel good if your surroundings are tidy. You are usually not aware of this behaviour, and it becomes so automatic that you probably call it personality.
Physical symptoms represent the body's weak spots and is not the disease. After your body has been trying to compensate for the emotional drain for too long, it gives up and sends some of the stress somewhere else - aches and pains, tiredness, cancer, chronic fatigue etc.. Trying hard to be something you are not uses a lot of energy and is exhausting and debilitating on the body. If we 'fix' the emotional problem the energy is returned to the body to 'fix' the physical symptoms and they disappear permanently.
In Health, you can feel good about yourself without praise, without achieving, without conditions. Of course you may still like praise and are still able to achieve, but the difference is you don't need it to feel good about yourself. If your situation requires you to achieve, you can, if you need to be passive, you can. You are able to respond appropriately at all times, and still feel good about yourself. The person who likes to be the leader feels comfortable letting someone else have a go. The person who likes to sit back and watch feels comfortable getting up and speaking his point of view.
Health signifies: freedom to respond to life as you are required to without worry; spontaneity to do what is desired without fear; and happiness in accepting yourself for who you are and allowing others to be themselves as well. Any deviation from this is disease and will lead to physical symptoms. Homoeopathy and Kinesiology are two methods of holistic medicine that understand what disease and health are, and therefore know how to cure disease and bring about true health.
