Sailability Gippsland
held its first steering committee meeting on Friday, 13th August 1999.
From that point onwards, sufficient funds have been raised to enable
sailing for people with a disability to become a reality. With huge
support from the corporate sector, disability services and interested
members of the community, much of the necessary equipment needed to
commence a program has been donated. Equipment such as four (4) Access
Dinghies, inflatable rescue craft, lifting gear, life jackets, trailers
and fist aid kits.
The Latrobe Valley Yacht
Inc.has supported the concept of Sailability from the beginning and
now Sailability Gippsland is a member of the Latrobe Valley
Yacht Club Inc. The Latrobe Valley Yacht Club Inc. co-share the inflatable
rescue craft of which the Latrobe Valley Yacht Club Inc. purchased
the outboard motor. All equipment is stored at the Latrobe Valley
Yacht Inc. and Sailability Gippsland have full use of the facilities
provided.

Sailability Gippsland's
Mid Week program officially opened on Friday, 20th October by the
Mayor of LaTrobe City, Councillor Tony Hanning. Sailability
Gippsland is situated at the Latrobe Valley
Yacht Club Inc. which is located on the western shore line of
the Hazelwood Power Stations cooling ponds.
The Latrobe Valley Yacht
Club Inc. is surrounded by large grassed areas, picnic and BBQ facilities,
aquatic hall, accessible toilets and camping facilities provided by
the Latrobe City Council. In
between sails, enjoy a kick of the footy a game of cricket or simply
lay back and soak up the surroundings.
The water temperature
is a very comfortable 24 degrees Celsius all year round, making the
venue a favourite and ideal venue for many water sport enthusiasts.
So bring along your bathers and go for a swim along the purpose built
sandy beach. Sailability
Gippsland has completed building a purpose designed jetty for
the use of easier access to the sailing vessels and waterways. A shade
sail shelter has been erected to give shade on the hot days, thanks
to Latrobe City and Sport and Recreation Victoria.
